BACK TO THE START (1)

INTRODUCTION

We enter the new year 2019 with the theme: The Year of Increase, where our theme of this month will be: Back to the start. We want to start our spiritual life by learning from the life of Enoch. Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

CONTENT

There are two things we can learn from Enoch’s life, namely that:

  1. Enoch responds to God’s warnings (Genesis 5:21-24)

One of the meanings of the name Enoch is dedicated. Although the meaning of the name is beautiful, the Bible does not record anything about Enoch’s activities until he reaches 65 years of age.

He begins to build up a relationship and dedicate his life to God after his son Methuselah is born at the age of 65. This is the turning point of Enoch’s life, when God conveys the message to him through his son, Methuselah (that meant ‘when he dies, the world will end’). When Methuselah dies, there will be a major event that destroys and wipes out all mankind, that is the Flood that hits the earth in the days of Noah (Genesis 7:11-12,22-24). Enoch becomes aware of God’s warning and he has started to build up a relationship with God.

  2. Enoch is faithful to the first love (Genesis 5:21-22)

Before Enoch was called by God, he had a close relationship with the Lord, kept his faithfulness and hold on the “first love” for 300 years. That‘s why God is pleased with Enoch and takes him up to Heaven.

Let us keep and hold our faithfulness and love for God like Enoch does.

CONCLUSION

Let us start this year by seeking fellowship with God again.
