GOOD AND FAITHFUL STEWARD

INTRODUCTION

The principle of 'STEWARDSHIP' is, that God, as the Owner of all things, entrusts people in whom He can trust to manage His possessions.

There are three levels to our relationship with God:

  • Faith

  • Trust

  • Trusted

In other words, 'STEWARDSHIP' is the growth that we as believers make to be God's confidants and to manage the possessions that belong to God.

Psalm 24:1 " The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.”

In Matthew 25 there is a parable: a master went on a journey and called his servants and entrusted them with money. The first received five talents, the second received two talents, and the third received one talent, according to their respective abilities or skills. When the master returned, he called his servants together and asked them what they had done with the talents entrusted to them.

1.     Matthew 25:20… look, I have gained five more talents besides them…

  • We must use what God has entrusted to us according to His will and we must be accountable for it.

2.     Matthew 25:21His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; …”

  • Faithful” means trustworthy (by husband/wife, parents, supervisor or by God), remember, we need to grow from believers to God’s confidants.

  • Faithful” also means productive or fruitful.

  • Faithful” does not mean you are there without accomplishing anything.

  • Faithful” means that what has been entrusted to us is improving/progressing.

3.     Matthew 25:22-23… faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

  • Whoever is faithful in small things will be trusted with great things.

The better we handle what God gives us, the more God will entrust us.

That is why one of our responsibilities is, to continue learning and developing our abilities, so we are able to manage what God has ALREADY entrusted us.

4.     Matthew 25:24Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.”

  • Our perspective of who God is and His plans for us will influence how good we will be as stewards of what God has entrusted us and how much we will be entrusted.

5.     Matthew 25:25-27…You wicked and lazy servant.”

Matthew 25:28 “Therefore take the talent from him and give it to him who has ten talents.”

  • Truth: We will lose what we cannot manage well

CONCLUSION

Let every believer continue to grow so that he may become a person pleasing to God.
