RESPONDING TO GOD'S VISIT
INTRODUCTION
We are still encouraged to actively respond to God's visit (Luke 20:1-26).
CONTENTS
What we should do in response to God's visit is:
1. Understand how God visits His people.
Out of His love, God comes to visit His people with His Word through His messengers (prophets), His only begotten Son Jesus Christ (the living Word), the Holy Scriptures/Bible (the written Word) as well as the Holy Spirit.
In Luke 20:1, it is mentioned that Jesus taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel (Hebrews 1:1-2).
This indicates that God is both active and creative in visiting His people (Luke 20:9-16).
2. Understand the purpose of God's visit for His people.
His purpose is to restore His people, deliver and save them, make them repent and worship Him in holiness and give them peace.
Indeed, when Jesus came to earth, He performed miracles of healing, exorcism, multiplication of loaves and fishes and so on. But more than that, the purpose of His visit was to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God. It is unfortunate that the Israelites responded to His coming only politically that would free them from their enemy's occupation. Whereas He visited to bring deliverance from the hands of the devil, to save and give an understanding of salvation based on the forgiveness of sins like the prophetic song by Zechariah (Luke 1:68-79).
3. Responding correctly to God's visit.
We receive God's Word with the right motivation and with a willing heart, recognising and believing in the authority of His Word. And under the leading of the Holy Spirit, we will also fulfil His Word with joy.
From the reading of Luke 20:1-2, 19-20, 26 we can learn not to reject God's visit, have evil motives and not be willing to be humble, as the scribes, chief priests and elders in the temple did.
Let us receive the Word of God willingly and search it daily as the Bereans did (Acts 17:11).
CONCLUSION
Let us respond to God's visitation properly so that He will be pleased with us.
